faq

  • What is Light House Holistic?
We are a wellbeing clubhouse with a membership built around daily yoga classes, wellbeing events, and the rooftop amenities. Light House Holistic is a rooftop sanctuary in the heart of Cape Town with a quiet, sunlit studio, and home to a rooftop garden offering panoramic mountain views, a co-working lounge with terrace, and a salt water pool.
  • Where are you located?
On the 6th floor of The Barracks, on 50 Bree Street, in the city centre of Cape Town, South Africa.
  • Is there parking available?
While we don’t offer on-site parking, we are happy to offer an incredible rate of R25/day in the SunSquare parking. The entrance for SunSquare parking is on Castle Street. Simply say you are parking for Light House and pay at Reception on Ground floor. There are several paid on-street parking options nearby. Our venue is also easily accessible by public transport or rideshare services.
  • What wellness services do you offer?
We offer a wide range of holistic wellness services, including yoga classes, meditation sessions, sound healing, and breathwork. Check out our Schedule and Upcoming events pages for more.
  • Are there shower facilities?
Yes, we offer two changerooms with two showers each, as well as four outdoor showers. You can freshen up post-class or swim with ease.
  • Are you child & pet-friendly?
While we have an abundance of love for the little beings of the world, we unfortunately we do not allow animals and children at Light House Holistic unless specifically requested. When and if any children or pets are on the rooftop, we ask that parents of fur and non-fur babies keep them close at all times! We do not take responsibility for any incidents that may occur, and ask all attendees to sign a safety waiver.
  • What does a membership include?
Depending on which membership you take out (day, week, month), you will have access to the yoga classes as described on the pass, as well as all of the amenities Light House has to offer. This includes the swimming pool, co-working lounge with fast Wi-Fi, and the studio for self-practise (when not in use). A drop-in pass gets you into 1 class per day.
  • Are there swimming restrictions?
Light House offers a beautiful 13m salt-water pool as part of its membership options. We encourage all users to be mindful of others, the classes, and any events happening in the space at all times. No diving or splashing is permitted. From time to time, we will close the swimming pool for private functions and events. If a class is in process, swimming is to be done in silence.
  • What are your operating hours?
Mon–Thurs: 08h00–17h30 Fri: 08h00–15h00 Sat–Sun: 08h00–13h00 Public holidays: Open for morning class only. We reserve the right to close to the public during private functions and events of a sensitive nature.

  • Do you offer private classes?
Yes, we offer private classes, either one-on-one or group classes. We work with incredibly gifted teachers, and we will do our best to get you booked in around the existing class schedule. Get in touch to find out more. Be sure to name your preferred style or teacher, if you have one.
  • What style of yoga do you offer?
We offer unheated* yoga and meditation in a beautiful climate-controlled setting. Each teacher offers something different; a unique blend of their own learnings around the foundational styles of Hatha, Vinyasa, Yin, Vedanta, Jivamukti, Forrest, Ashtanga and Tantra. The unique expertise of each teacher will resonate differently with every client, so we recommend coming in to discover your preference of teacher and style. *The Fire class is gently warmed to 28 degrees for a unique Slow Burn or Forrest Yoga offering, teacher-dependant.
  • What do the class names mean?!
No, you will not be getting into the pool for the Water, or be asked to walk on Fire. At Light House we honour the natural world. In our classes, we draw inspiration from the elements that surround us, from the strong mountain climb to water flow. Please check the class names on the Schedule page. We ask you to join the classes with those intentions, and to stay curious!
  • Do you offer beginner classes?
Yes, that’s why we’re here! Our co-founder, Jay, found it difficult to enter yoga classes as both a male and newbie, and so we want to ensure you feel at home with others like yourself. We offer Earth (Fundamentals) and Slow Flow (Gentle) classes to cater to beginners of yoga. We also recommend joining Wood (Yin) and Ether (Meditation) classes as movement and alignment cues are offered. We also offer a monthly Community class, which caters to beginners. Every few weeks we offer beginners the opportunity to begin learning the practise of Ashtanga Mysore with Sharline Rofail. Keep an eye out for Ashtanga Exploration events. If you happen to find yourself in a more advanced class, just breathe. The teachers and the practise are meant to challenge you, and you are welcome to rest at any stage.
  • Do you offer advanced classes?
We are proud to humbly offer challenging classes from the incredible instructors on the schedule. We have an Advanced class on the schedule weekly, and also a Mountain (Strong) class at least 3 times a week to get those creative muscles flowing!
  • Do I need to bring my own yoga mat and towel?
We encourage attendees to bring their own mats and towels, but if needed, we have mats and towels to rent at R30 each time.
  • What do I wear?
Wear comfortable, breathable clothing that allows for easy movement. Yoga is generally practiced barefoot, but grip socks are welcome.
  • Can I join the class late?
To honor your practice and respect others, please arrive at least 5-10 minutes before class starts. This allows you time to settle in and creates a calm, undisturbed environment for everyone. Remember, once the class starts, late arrivals are not permitted for the comfort and focus of all participants.
  • Can I film myself in class?
As beatiful as the space and practise is, filming or taking photos during yoga class is not encouraged. This is also out of respect for the privacy and focus of your fellow students,. We encourage you to be fully present in the moment and immerse yourself in the practice without distractions. If you wish to capture your progress, please do so before or after class with the instructor’s permission and in a way that does not disturb others.

  • Why can’t I see the Events on your class schedule?
